Driving home, E.D. had planned things out, he looked around his truck and realized it needed some attention. He couldn't have company in here for long drives without changing a few things. Normally, he was alone in the truck, he never used the passenger seat for passengers, it was for the beer once he was far enough back there to not worry about the cops., but now that wouldn't work so well.
Pulling in his driveway, he hit the button for his garage door. He loved that thing, it was the best thing he had ever purchased on a whim. Backing up to the door, he realized that all his normal habits would be askew. He would have to rethink everything. What about sleeping arrangements? Did she realize what she was in for? E.D. chuckled to himself as he unloaded his normal gear. It wouldn't support a couples outing. E.D. stopped dead in his tracks. Couples? he wondered. Jesus, what had he gotten himself into. He didn't ask anything about what she would bring nor had any clue what to expect. E.D. found himself questioning his questioning until he finally convinced himself that whatever were to happen, he could only do his best. He relaxed a bit and replaced his sleeping gear with more suitable stuff. He kept in mind that as much as he wanted to share a sleeping bag, he had no idea if that were going to happen at all and going in he wanted his expectations to be left behind. It was just the companionship he wanted, not a relationship necessarily, someone that liked what he did, instead of what he had found before, like his ex-girlfriend. She liked sushi and private parties that were to say the least, boring and not his style at all. E.D. hated getting all fancied up for nothing and figured that was why his relationship with Beth never worked. He kept it going longer than he wanted, but in the end chose the right path in ending it. Beth moved on in life and maintained a quiet friendship with him, but allowed it to digress into more of a hi, how are you type of friendship. He knew he better play this weekend slow and make sure of what he was getting into. This time he just wanted someone to have fun with.
E.D. finished packing his things, and had them all organized in the back in waterproof containers. The weather man was never right, but the threat of rain was in the sky, so he wanted nothing to ruin his weekend. Replacing his personal tent with a bigger one just in case it was necessary, along with more than enough gear for the two of them to be comfortable separately, he snuck in a bottle of bubbly wine. 'That stuff might be handy later' he mused to himself grinning. looking around at all the gear, he hoped Sam wasn't planning the same way, they'd better discuss that in the morning. Pulling out his cellphone, E.D. realized the time. It was late. He had better park the truck and get some sleep. That 12 hour shift was about to take it's toll on him anyways, there would be time in the morning to revisit everything.
A quick bite to eat, thanks to Mr. Micro Wave, E.D. was ready for sleep. The bed swallowed him as he lay back and within minutes, he was asleep. E.D. never slept so well, normally he would toss and turn forever trying, but tonight sleep came easy.
